SPKA — Sistem Pengawasan Kebakaran Automatik, the Automatic Fire Monitoring System — is a national scheme run by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (BOMBA).
It takes the fire alarm panel already inside your building and puts it on a live line: panel to monitoring centre, monitoring centre to BOMBA's operations command. The moment a detector trips, the signal travels — at 3 a.m., on a public holiday, or when the building is empty. Nobody has to find a phone.

Under Section 29 of the Fire Services Act 1988, every designated premises in Malaysia must install and maintain an active SPKA connection. Without one, BOMBA will not issue or renew your Fire Certificate (Sijil Perakuan Bomba) — and a designated premises operating without a valid Fire Certificate is committing an offence.
The duty sits with the building owner, not the tenant. If you own a designated premises, this is yours to settle.

Connection & Coordination

Q_01
Is SPKA compulsory for my building?
If your building is gazetted as a designated premises under the Fire Services (Designated Premises) Order 1998, yes. Section 29 of Act 341 requires you to install an SPKA connection and keep it active. If you're not certain of your building's status, we can verify it for you.
Q_02
What happens if I don't connect?
BOMBA will not issue or renew the Fire Certificate for a designated premises without an active SPKA connection — and operating without a valid Fire Certificate is an offence under the Act, with enforcement action to match. It also means a fire in your building relies on someone noticing and calling it in.

I already have a fire alarm system. Isn't that enough?
Your alarm warns the people inside the building. SPKA carries that alarm out — to a monitoring centre and on to BOMBA. Your existing panel isn't replaced; it becomes the source the connection rides on. If the panel needs upgrading to interface properly, that's work we handle.
Q_04
Who is responsible — owner or tenant?
The statutory duty rests with the building owner. How costs are shared under a lease is between owner and tenant — but if the connection isn't there, it's the owner the law looks at.

What does the installation involve?
The SPKA unit interfaces with your main fire alarm panel and needs a stable power supply and an internet connection. When the premises is ready, the physical installation is measured in hours, not days. Getting the premises ready — outputs, wiring, network point — is the part we prepare in advance so installation day is a formality.

Won't false alarms send fire engines to my door?
No. Every signal is verified by the monitoring centre with your premises before BOMBA is mobilised. A burnt toast alarm gets filtered out; a real fire gets through fast. That verification step is exactly why the system works.
